Privacy policy
Privacy Policy
This policy explains, in plain language, what personal data Selenalondon collects when you browse or buy from us, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have over it. It applies to every visitor and customer of selenalondon.com.
Who we are
Selenalondon is a trading name of JLA Marketing, a company established and registered in Paris, France under SIRET 834 721 094 00011. For the purposes of French and UK data protection law, JLA Marketing is the data controller responsible for deciding how and why your personal data is processed in connection with selenalondon.com.
We are a France-based online retailer selling women's sandals, dresses, footwear and three-piece linen sets, and we sell exclusively to customers located in the United Kingdom. Because our customer base is entirely UK-based, this policy is written to reflect UK data protection standards, alongside the French rules that apply to us as the registered business collecting and processing that data.
If you have any question about this policy or how your data is handled, our contact details are in Section 17 below.

This policy covers personal data we process when you visit selenalondon.com, create an account, browse our sandals, dresses, footwear or three-piece linen set collections, place an order, contact our customer service team, sign up to marketing emails, or otherwise interact with our store. It applies whether you are shopping on desktop, tablet or mobile.
This policy does not cover the practices of third-party websites you may reach through links on our site, including our shipping, payment and analytics partners named in Section 8. Those organisations have their own privacy notices, which we encourage you to read.

Returns & after-sales data
Details you give us when requesting a return or refund on a sandal, dress, footwear or linen set order, including the reason for the return and any photographs you choose to share with us about a faulty item.
We do not knowingly collect any special category data (such as health information, religious beliefs or biometric data) through selenalondon.com, and we ask that you do not include this type of information in any message you send us.
How we collect your information
Directly from you, when you create an account, complete checkout, sign up to our newsletter, submit our contact form, request a return, or speak to our customer service team by email, live chat or telephone.
Automatically, through cookies and similar technologies as you browse our sandals, dresses, footwear and linen set collections, as described in Section 7.
From trusted third parties who help us run our store, such as our payment providers confirming that a payment has been authorised, and our delivery partners providing tracking updates on a parcel travelling from France to your UK address.
The legal basis we rely on
Under UK GDPR and the retained EU GDPR standards that apply to us as a French business selling into the UK, we only process your personal data where we have a valid legal basis to do so. Depending on the activity, we rely on one of the following:
How we use your information
- To process and dispatch your order from France to your UK delivery address, and to keep you updated on its progress.
- To take payment securely through our payment providers and to detect and prevent fraudulent transactions.
- To manage returns, exchanges and refunds under our Refund Policy.
- To respond to your questions through email, live chat, telephone or our contact form, and to keep a record of that conversation.
- To send you order confirmations, shipping notifications and, where you have opted in, marketing emails about new sandals, dresses, footwear and linen sets.
- To understand which pages and products customers engage with, so we can improve navigation, loading speed and the accuracy of our product descriptions.
- To meet our legal, accounting and tax obligations as a company registered in France.
- To enforce our Terms of Service and protect the security of our website and customers.
Cookies and similar technologies
Like most online stores, we use cookies and similar technologies to run our website, remember your basket, and understand how our sandals, dresses, footwear and linen set pages are used. Where a cookie is not strictly necessary for the site to function, we only set it with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by adjusting your browser settings or clearing your cookies.
Cookie retention periods vary by type: session cookies are deleted when you close your browser, while persistent analytics and advertising cookies are typically kept for up to 13 months, in line with recommended practice from the French data protection authority (the CNIL), before they expire or are refreshed with your renewed consent.
Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the following categories of trusted organisations, each of which is contractually required to protect your data and use it only for the purpose we specify:
Our ecommerce platform
Selenalondon is built on Shopify, which hosts our store and processes order, account and payment data on our behalf as our data processor.
Payment providers
PCI-DSS compliant payment processors handle transactions made with Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, Klarna and Apple Pay. They receive the payment details needed to authorise your purchase.
Delivery & tracking partners
Carriers who transport your order from France to the UK, and our order tracking service, receive your name, address and contact details so your parcel can be delivered and tracked.
Analytics & advertising partners
Where you consent to analytics or advertising cookies, aggregated or pseudonymised browsing data is shared with providers such as Google Analytics, Google Ads and Meta.
Email & customer service tools
Software we use to send order updates and marketing emails, and to manage live chat and support tickets, processes your contact details and message history on our behalf.
Authorities & professional advisers
French tax authorities, UK regulators, law enforcement, and our own accountants or legal advisers, where we are required or permitted by law to share information with them.
International data transfers
Selenalondon is registered and based in France, within the European Economic Area, and our customers are located in the United Kingdom. As a normal part of shopping with us, your personal data therefore moves between the UK and the EEA, and in some cases to service providers, such as our ecommerce and email platforms, located in countries outside the UK and EEA, including the United States.
Where personal data is transferred outside the UK or the EEA, we ensure an appropriate safeguard is in place, such as the UK's International Data Transfer Agreement, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or reliance on a provider's recognised adequacy status, so that your data continues to receive a level of protection consistent with UK and French data protection law wherever it is processed.
How long we keep your information
We keep personal data only for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected, or for as long as the law requires:
- Order and invoice records are retained for ten years, in line with French commercial and accounting law (Article L123-22 of the French Commercial Code).
- Account information is retained for as long as your account remains active, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you wish to reactivate it or raise a query about a past order.
- Customer service correspondence is retained for as long as needed to resolve your query and for a further period afterwards to handle any follow-up questions or disputes.
- Marketing data is retained until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, or until you have not engaged with our marketing for an extended period, at which point we will stop contacting you.
How we protect your information
Our store runs on Shopify's infrastructure, which encrypts data in transit using TLS/SSL and maintains PCI-DSS Level 1 certification for payment processing. All checkout transactions on selenalondon.com are processed through PCI-compliant payment providers, and we never store your full card number on our own systems.
Access to customer data within our own team is limited to staff who genuinely need it to process your order or respond to your enquiry, and we review our third-party partners to confirm they maintain appropriate security standards. No method of transmission or storage is completely infallible, but we take proportionate, industry-standard steps to keep your data safe.
Your privacy rights
As a UK-based customer of a French retailer, your personal data is protected under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Subject to certain conditions and exemptions set out in that law, you have the right to:
You also have the right to withdraw consent at any time where we rely on consent, for example for marketing emails or non-essential cookies, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before you withdrew it.
To exercise any of these rights, please use our Privacy Opt-Out & Rights Request page, or email us directly at contact@selenalondon.com. We aim to respond to all requests within one calendar month, in line with UK GDPR timescales.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, you have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or, given that JLA Marketing is registered in France, to the French data protection authority, the CNIL, at www.cnil.fr. We would, however, welcome the chance to resolve any concern directly first.
Your marketing choices
We only send marketing emails about new sandals, dresses, footwear and linen set arrivals, offers and restocks to customers who have opted in, whether at checkout, through account creation, or by signing up separately to our newsletter.
You can opt out of marketing emails at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link included in every marketing email we send, or by submitting a request through our Privacy Opt-Out & Rights Request page. Opting out of marketing does not affect transactional emails, such as order confirmations and shipping updates, which we send to fulfil your order.
Children's privacy
Selenalondon's sandals, dresses, footwear and linen sets are designed for, and marketed to, adult customers. Our website is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 18. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected data from a child, we will delete it promptly.
Automated decision-making
We use automated fraud-screening checks provided by our payment partners to help protect against fraudulent transactions. We do not use automated decision-making, including profiling, that produces a legal or similarly significant effect on you without the possibility of human review. If a payment is ever declined by an automated check, you are welcome to contact us and we will look into it personally.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time as our product range, service providers or applicable law change. Any update will be published on this page with a revised "Last updated" date shown in the hero at the top of this policy. We encourage you to review this page occasionally, particularly before placing an order.
