Payment Policy
Clear pricing, secure payment, no surprises at checkout.
This page explains, in plain English, exactly how payment works when you order sandals, dresses, footwear or a three-piece linen set from Selenalondon: what currency you pay in, which methods we accept, how and when your card or account is charged, how international cards are converted, and the security standards protecting every transaction.
One store, one destination, one currency — kept deliberately simple.
Selenalondon is the trading name of JLA Marketing, a company registered in Paris, France. We sell exclusively to customers with a delivery address in the United Kingdom, across four categories: sandals, dresses, footwear and three-piece linen sets. This Payment Policy applies to every order placed through selenalondon.com, however you pay.
We wrote this policy because a cross-border purchase, ordered from a French retailer but paid for and delivered in the UK, naturally raises questions a purely domestic store wouldn't need to answer: what currency am I actually charged in, does that figure change after I've paid, and who is responsible for keeping my card details safe? Every section below answers one of those questions directly, without small print you have to hunt for.
If anything here is unclear, or you'd like it explained for a specific order, contact us using the details at the foot of this page before you check out — we'd rather answer a question in advance than leave you guessing.

Every price, every charge, every refund: pounds sterling. Nothing else.
Although JLA Marketing is registered and based in France, selenalondon.com displays and charges every price in pounds sterling (GBP, £) only. We do not offer, and have never offered, checkout in euros or any other currency, because our catalogue exists for one market — the United Kingdom — and we think pricing it in anything other than GBP would only add confusion.
The figure you see on a product page, in your basket, and at the final checkout step is the exact amount your payment method will be charged in GBP. There is no separate step where that figure is recalculated into euros for our own accounting; any internal currency handling on our side happens after your payment has been taken, and never changes what you were charged.

Six trusted ways to pay, all processed by regulated providers.
We accept the major debit and credit card networks used across the UK, plus one buy-now-pay-later option and one mobile wallet. Every method below is processed by an independent, regulated payment provider — Selenalondon never receives or stores your full card number.
Your card is charged when you place your order, not when it ships.
When you complete checkout, your chosen payment method is authorised and captured — meaning the full amount is charged — at the point your order is confirmed, before we begin processing or dispatch. We take payment upfront rather than on shipment because it lets us confirm stock and begin preparing your order the same day where possible.
If, in the rare case, an item you've ordered turns out to be unavailable after your payment has been captured, we will contact you promptly and refund the affected amount in full to your original payment method — we will never substitute a different item or hold funds for stock we cannot fulfil.
Authorisation & capture
Your card or account is authorised and captured together, in a single step, at the moment you confirm your order.
Statement descriptor
Your bank or card statement will show the charge under Selenalondon or JLA Marketing, so the transaction is easy to recognise.
We charge in GBP; your own bank decides how that becomes your home currency.
Who performs the conversion
Selenalondon does not convert currency on your behalf, and we do not set or influence any exchange rate. If your card, bank account, or Apple Pay wallet is denominated in euros, US dollars, or any currency other than GBP, the conversion from GBP into your home currency is performed entirely by your own card issuer, bank, or payment network — not by us.
Which exchange rate, and when
Because the conversion happens on your bank's side, the rate applied is your issuer's own rate on the date they process the transaction — which may differ slightly from the rate on the day you placed your order, and from the mid-market rate you might see quoted elsewhere. Your bank, not Selenalondon, sets this rate and any margin built into it.
Some card issuers also apply their own foreign or non-sterling transaction fee for purchases made in a currency different from your account's currency. This fee, if any, is charged directly by your bank and does not appear on, or benefit, our order total — it is a separate charge between you and your card issuer. If you'd like to avoid it, check with your bank before ordering, or use a card or wallet that already holds a GBP balance.
One figure, shown once, that never moves after you've paid.
The total displayed at the final step of checkout — product price, plus any applicable charges, in GBP — is the complete amount you authorise, and it does not change afterwards. We do not add fees after payment, and we do not knowingly leave charges to be collected on delivery, in line with current HMRC treatment for goods sold to UK consumers from overseas.
The only amount that can vary is one entirely outside our control: if your card issuer applies its own currency-conversion rate or a foreign transaction fee (see above), that adjustment happens on your bank statement, not on our order total, and reflects your bank's terms rather than ours.

We never see, and never store, your full card number.
Every payment on selenalondon.com is encrypted in transit using industry-standard SSL/TLS, and processed through third-party payment gateways that are themselves certified to the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). Your card details are transmitted directly to these certified processors and never pass through, or sit stored on, Selenalondon's or JLA Marketing's own servers.
Card numbers are tokenised by our payment providers, meaning a secure, one-use reference is used to process your transaction rather than your real card number being retained anywhere in our systems. Where a card scheme requires it, transactions may also be verified through Strong Customer Authentication (such as 3D Secure), adding a further check with your bank before payment completes.
A separate, regulated contract between you and Klarna — not with Selenalondon.
How it works at our checkout
Selecting Klarna at checkout lets you pay for your order in instalments or defer payment, according to the option Klarna offers you at the time. Selenalondon receives payment in full from Klarna once your order is confirmed; your ongoing repayment schedule is agreed directly with Klarna, not with us.
Whose terms apply
Klarna is a separate, independently regulated financial services provider. Its own terms, eligibility checks, and any late-payment charges are set by Klarna and are governed by Klarna's own agreement with you, which you review and accept before confirming that payment method.
Declined, failed and disputed transactions.
Declined or failed payments
If your payment is declined, your order will not be confirmed and no funds will be captured. Declines are usually issued by your card provider — for reasons such as available balance, address verification, or fraud checks — and we recommend contacting your bank directly if a decline surprises you.
Suspected fraud
We and our payment processors run automated fraud-screening on every order. If a transaction is flagged, we may contact you to verify your identity or the order details before dispatch, and may cancel and fully refund an order we cannot verify.
Chargebacks & disputes
If you dispute a charge with your bank instead of contacting us first, we will respond to the chargeback with our order, delivery and communication records. We'd always rather resolve a concern directly — see our Refund & Return Policy or contact us below.
Refunds return to the same method you paid with — always.
Where an order qualifies for a refund, under our 30-day return window or otherwise, we issue it to the original payment method used at checkout: the same card, Klarna account, or Apple Pay-linked card. We do not issue refunds to a different card, by bank transfer, or as store credit unless you and we agree to that in writing for a specific case.
Refunds are processed within 10 business days of us receiving and inspecting a returned item. If you paid with Klarna, the refund is sent to Klarna, who will then adjust or cancel your remaining instalments according to their own process. Full return eligibility is set out in our Refund & Return Policy.

The consumer protection law that governs your payment.
Consumer protection where you shop
Because we sell only to the United Kingdom, your purchase and payment are governed by UK consumer law. The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 require us to give you clear pricing and payment information before you order — which this page and our checkout are built to satisfy. The Payment Services Regulations 2017 govern how regulated payment providers process your transaction, including your right to a refund for an unauthorised payment.
- Consumer Rights Act 2015 — goods as described, of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose.
- Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 — pre-contract payment and pricing transparency.
- Payment Services Regulations 2017 — regulation of card and account-based payment processing.
Where our business is established
JLA Marketing is registered in France under SIRET 834 721 094 00011, with its registered office in Paris. As a French online seller, our payment practices meet the transparency requirements of the French Consumer Code (Code de la consommation), including clear disclosure of the total price, payment methods and currency before you conclude a purchase.
- Code de la consommation — pre-contractual pricing and payment transparency.
- PSD2 (EU Payment Services Directive) — security standards our payment partners apply, including Strong Customer Authentication where relevant.
- GDPR / UK GDPR — protection of the payment and order data you provide to us.
Everything else, spelled out
When you check out on selenalondon.com, your payment is taken by JLA Marketing (trading as Selenalondon), registered in Paris, France under SIRET 834 721 094 00011. This is the entity named on your bank or card statement, on your order confirmation, and on any invoice we issue.
The GBP total you confirm at checkout is the complete amount payable for your order: the listed product price (already inclusive of any discount applied), and free shipping to the UK on every order. We do not add handling fees, payment surcharges, or currency-conversion fees of our own to this figure.
- No card surcharge is applied for choosing any of the six accepted payment methods.
- No delivery charge is added, as shipping is free on all UK orders.
- Any promotional discount is applied before the total is shown, never adjusted afterwards.
If our checkout offers you the option to save a payment method for future orders, that card is stored securely as an encrypted token by our PCI DSS-compliant payment processor, not on Selenalondon's own systems. You can remove a saved payment method at any time through your account or by contacting us.
If your banking app shows a transaction in a currency other than GBP, or shows both a GBP figure and a converted figure, this is your bank's own currency-conversion display and not a second charge — you are only ever charged once, in GBP, for the total confirmed at checkout.
By placing an order, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old and are authorised to use the payment method provided, whether it is your own card or account, or one you have express permission to use.
We may update this Payment Policy as our accepted payment methods, providers, or applicable regulations evolve. The "Last updated" date in the hero above always reflects the current version, and any material change will be reflected on this page as soon as it takes effect.
