Cookie Policy

This page explains, in plain UK English, exactly which cookies and similar technologies Selenalondon uses when you browse our sandals, dresses, footwear and three-piece linen sets, why we use them, how long they last, and how you stay in control of every one of them.

Operated by: JLA Marketing Applies to: selenalondon.com Governed by: UK PECR & UK GDPR Effective & last updated: 3 August 2026
In plain terms

We only place non-essential cookies once you've said yes.

Selenalondon is the trading name of JLA Marketing, a French company that sells sandals, dresses, footwear and three-piece linen sets exclusively to customers in the United Kingdom. Because our customers are based in the UK, we have written this policy to meet the standard set by the UK's Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and UK GDPR — and because we are established in France, we also follow the French Data Protection Act and the cookie guidance published by the CNIL, France's data protection authority.

In short: cookies that are strictly necessary to run this store — remembering what's in your basket, keeping your checkout secure, showing prices in GBP — are set automatically, because the law allows this without asking first. Every other cookie, including analytics and advertising cookies, is switched off by default and only activates after you actively choose to allow it through our cookie banner or preference centre.

We've written the rest of this page so that a first-time visitor, not a lawyer, can understand exactly what we collect, why, and how to change their mind at any time.

The building blocks

Cookies, and the other small technologies that work like them.

Cookies

Tiny text files placed on your device when you visit selenalondon.com. They let the site remember information between page loads and future visits, such as items in your basket.

Local & session storage

Similar small data stores built into your browser rather than a cookie file. Shopify's cart and checkout use these to hold your size, colour and quantity choices as you shop.

Pixels & tags

Near-invisible snippets of code (for example a Meta or Google pixel) that report back when a page has loaded, so an advertising partner knows an ad or page was viewed.

App & plugin scripts

Code loaded by tools we run on top of Shopify, such as our order-tracking app or payment provider, which can set their own cookies to do their specific job.

The law behind this page

Consent-first, by design — not just by wording.

Because Selenalondon sells only to customers in the United Kingdom, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (UK PECR) and UK GDPR set the standard we follow: non-essential cookies may not be placed on your device until you have given clear, informed, opt-in consent, and refusing must be exactly as easy as accepting. Article 13 of the UK GDPR also requires us to explain, in accessible language, what we collect, why, on what legal basis, and for how long — which is the purpose of this entire page.

Because JLA Marketing is established in Paris, France, we additionally follow the ePrivacy Directive as implemented in French law and the cookie recommendations published by the CNIL (Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés), including CNIL's guidance that consent should be freely given, granular by purpose, and not renewed for longer than around thirteen months without asking again.

Strictly necessary cookies

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating the store securely (PECR Regulation 6 exemption). No consent banner action required.

Analytics, functional & advertising cookies

Legal basis: your freely given, specific consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)), collected before the cookie is set and withdrawable at any time.

Four categories we use

Every cookie on this site falls into one of these groups.

Strictly necessary

Keep your basket, checkout and account session working, and remember that you are shopping in the UK in GBP. The site cannot function without these.

Always active

Performance & analytics

Tell us, in aggregate, which of our four collections — sandals, dresses, footwear or linen sets — customers browse most, so we can plan stock, content and site improvements.

Requires your consent

Functional & preference

Remember choices you make while browsing — such as a saved size guide view or a dismissed notice — so you don't have to repeat them on your next visit.

Requires your consent

Advertising & retargeting

Let us, and partners such as Google and Meta, show you a relevant reminder — for example, of a dress you viewed — and measure how well our advertising performs.

This list reflects the cookies our platform, Shopify, and our current apps and advertising partners typically set, and is reviewed whenever we add or remove a tool. It is provided for transparency alongside — not instead of — the live, itemised list shown in our on-site cookie preference centre, which always reflects exactly what is active for your visit.

How consent works on this site

You choose category by category, and you can change your mind.

When you first visit selenalondon.com, a cookie banner appears before any non-essential cookie is set. You can accept all cookies, reject all non-essential cookies, or open the preference centre to switch on only the categories you're comfortable with. Whichever option you choose is recorded in an essential cookie so we don't ask again on every page — but you can reopen your preferences at any time using the "Cookie Preferences" link in our site footer.

Strictly necessary

Required to display the store, hold your basket and complete checkout securely. These cannot be switched off.

Performance & analytics

Helps us understand which collections and pages are popular. Off until you switch it on.

Functional & preference

Remembers small choices you make while browsing, such as a dismissed banner. Off until you switch it on.

Advertising & retargeting

Powers reminder ads and measures campaign performance across Google and Meta. Off until you switch it on.

We keep a record of the consent choice itself — the category you allowed or refused, and the date — for as long as it remains valid, as evidence that we asked properly. In line with CNIL's recommendation, we refresh your consent request roughly every thirteen months, or sooner if this policy or the cookies we use change materially.

Who else may set a cookie

The partners we work with, and their own policies.

Some cookies on selenalondon.com are set by companies we work with rather than by us directly. Each of the following partners is independently responsible for the data their own cookies collect, and publishes its own privacy or cookie policy, linked below for your reference.

Shopify Inc.

Our e-commerce platform, which sets essential cookies to run the storefront, basket and checkout. See Shopify's Cookie Policy.

Google (Analytics & Ads)

Used, with your consent, to measure site performance and advertising results. See Google's Cookies & Technologies policy.

Meta Platforms (Facebook & Instagram)

Used, with your consent, for retargeting and ad measurement. See Meta's Cookies Policy.

Klarna Bank AB

Sets a functional cookie only if you choose Klarna at checkout. See Klarna's Privacy & Cookie Policy.

ParcelPanel

Our order-tracking app, used so you can follow your delivery from France to the UK. See ParcelPanel's Privacy Policy.

Payment processors

Card and wallet providers processing your payment may set their own strictly necessary fraud-prevention cookies during checkout only.

Beyond our banner

You can also control cookies directly in your browser.

Every modern browser lets you view, block or delete cookies already stored on your device, independently of any choice you make on our site. Blocking all cookies, including essential ones, may stop the basket and checkout from working correctly.

You can also opt out of interest-based advertising directly with individual providers, for example through Google Ads Settings, Meta's Ad Preferences, or across many advertisers at once via Your Online Choices (UK & EU).

Local storage & similar technologies

Not every memory device on this site is technically a cookie.

Alongside cookies, Shopify's cart and checkout use your browser's local and session storage to hold information such as your selected size, colour or quantity while you shop, and to keep your session responsive. These technologies work in a similar way to a cookie but are stored differently by your browser.

Because UK PECR and the ePrivacy Directive apply the same consent standard to "similar technologies" as they do to cookies, we treat local storage used for anything beyond strictly necessary functions with the same consent-first approach described throughout this page.

You can clear local and session storage at any time through your browser's privacy or site-data settings, using the same controls linked in the section above.

Your rights over cookie data

Two regulators, one consistent standard of protection.

UK

As a UK-based customer

Under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have the right to access the personal data linked to your cookie identifiers, ask us to correct or erase it, object to or restrict its processing, request portability, and withdraw consent at any time without affecting past lawful processing.

  • Manage cookies instantly via our preference centre, no account needed.
  • Complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk if you believe we've handled your data incorrectly.
FR

As the responsibility of a French-established business

JLA Marketing, as data controller, is established in Paris and also answers to the CNIL under French and EU data protection law for how cookie-related personal data is processed and secured, even though our customers are based in the UK.

  • Request details of our processing directly using the contact information at the foot of this page.
  • Learn more about cookie rights from the CNIL at cnil.fr.
In detail

A few points worth spelling out fully

We use cookies to keep your basket and checkout working reliably, to understand in aggregate which sandals, dresses, footwear and linen sets customers browse and buy so we can plan our small, curated catalogue, and — only with your consent — to show you relevant reminders about items you've viewed rather than untargeted, unrelated advertising.

No analytics, functional or advertising cookie is set until you interact with our cookie banner. Consent is collected per category, is as easy to refuse as to accept, and a record of your choice is stored in an essential cookie so the banner does not reappear needlessly on every page you visit.

Open "Cookie Preferences" in the site footer at any time to review, switch on or switch off any non-essential category. Withdrawing consent stops new cookies of that type from being set and does not affect the legality of any processing carried out before you withdrew it.

Some of the third parties described above, including Google and Meta, may process cookie-derived data outside the UK and France. Where this happens, those providers rely on their own recognised safeguards, such as the UK's International Data Transfer Addendum or equivalent EU standard contractual clauses, as set out in each provider's own privacy policy linked above.

Cookies set by our payment providers and by Klarna during checkout are limited to what is strictly necessary to process your payment securely and prevent fraud. Selenalondon does not store your full card details on our own servers; this is handled entirely by our PCI-compliant payment partners.

Selenalondon is not directed at, and does not knowingly collect cookie data from, children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data through cookies, please contact us using the details below and we will act promptly to remove it.

We review this policy whenever we add, remove or change a cookie, app or advertising partner, and at least once every thirteen months in line with CNIL guidance. The "Effective & last updated" date in the hero above always reflects the current version, and where a change is material we will also refresh your stored consent so the banner appears again.

This Cookie Policy explains the specific technologies used to track and remember information on selenalondon.com. Our Privacy Policy explains, more broadly, what personal data we collect (including but not limited to cookie data), how we use it, and your full rights as a data subject. Read both together for a complete picture.
