Accessibility Statement
Accessibility, considered in every stitch — and every line of code.
Selenalondon wants every visitor — however they browse, whatever device or assistive technology they rely on — to be able to explore our sandals, dresses, footwear and three-piece linen sets, understand what they're buying, and check out with confidence. This page explains, in plain terms, the standards we work to, what we've already built, what we're still improving, and how to reach us if something isn't working for you.
We treat accessibility as a design requirement, not an afterthought.
Selenalondon is the trading name of JLA Marketing, a company registered and operating from Paris, France, selling exclusively to customers in the United Kingdom. Because our entire customer base shops from the UK while our business is legally established in France, we've built this statement around both jurisdictions rather than picking one and hoping it covers the other.
Our aim is for selenalondon.com to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the internationally recognised benchmark referenced by UK accessibility guidance and by the French RGAA (Référentiel Général d'Amélioration de l'Accessibilité) framework. We treat WCAG 2.1 AA as our working target across every page: product listings, category pages, cart, checkout and this statement itself.
This is an ongoing programme rather than a one-off fix. We review the storefront each time we update our theme, add a new product category, or introduce a third-party app, and we correct accessibility issues as we find them or as they're reported to us.

Standards, explained honestly — including which ones apply to us and how.
WCAG 2.1, Level AA
Our working standard for the whole site. WCAG groups requirements under four principles — content must be perceivable, operable, understandable and robust — covering things like colour contrast, keyboard access, resizable text, clear labelling and compatibility with assistive software. We test new templates and apps against these criteria before they go live wherever practicable.
Equality Act 2010
As a business selling to UK consumers, we have a duty under the Equality Act 2010 not to discriminate against disabled customers and, where reasonable, to make adjustments so our service is usable. We treat WCAG 2.1 AA conformance as the practical way we meet that duty online. (The separate Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018 apply directly to public-sector websites; we reference the WCAG 2.1 AA standard it sets out as recognised good practice for commercial sites like ours.)
RGAA (Référentiel Général d'Amélioration de l'Accessibilité)
RGAA is France's national accessibility framework, built on WCAG 2.1, and is the reference method French authorities use to assess web accessibility. As a French-registered retailer, we apply the same WCAG 2.1 AA success criteria that RGAA tests against, even though our storefront's mandatory legal audience is the UK rather than France.
European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882)
The European Accessibility Act, transposed into French law and in application since 28 June 2025, extends accessibility requirements to private-sector e-commerce services offered by companies established in the EU — which includes JLA Marketing. We treat its requirements for online sales services as directly relevant to how selenalondon.com is built and maintained.
Concrete accessibility measures across the storefront.
Structure & navigation
Pages use a logical heading order, landmark regions and a consistent layout across every product category, so screen-reader users can jump straight to the sandals, dresses, footwear or linen-set sections without wading through the whole page.
Images & alternative text
Product photography and icons carry descriptive alternative text (for example, naming the item, colourway and category), and purely decorative graphics — like the animated illustrations on this page — are marked so assistive technology skips over them.
Colour & contrast
Our body text, buttons and links are set against backgrounds chosen to meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratios (at least 4.5:1 for normal text), and colour is never the only signal used to convey information — for example, sale pricing is labelled in text, not shown by colour alone.
Keyboard operability
Every interactive element on the storefront — category filters, the accordion on our About Us page, cart controls and this page's own contact form — can be reached and operated using a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline (illustrated in the animation above) so you can always see where you are.
Forms & error handling
Checkout, contact and newsletter forms use clear, programmatically associated labels, mark required fields explicitly, and describe validation errors in text next to the relevant field rather than through colour or icons alone.
Resizing & responsive layout
Text can be resized up to 200% using standard browser zoom without loss of content or function, and the storefront reflows for smaller screens and magnification software rather than requiring horizontal scrolling to read a line of text.
Motion & animation control
Decorative motion — the swaying rail on our About Us page, the marquee strips, hover tilt effects and the focus-ring animation above — is automatically disabled for visitors whose device is set to "reduce motion," and no content depends on an animation to be understood.
Compatibility with assistive technology
We build and test using standard, semantic HTML so the storefront works with widely-used screen readers, screen magnifiers, voice-control software and switch devices, rather than relying on custom controls that assistive technology can't interpret.
Where we're not there yet, and what we're doing about it.
No storefront is perfectly accessible on every page at every moment, and we would rather tell you where the gaps are than claim otherwise. The known limitations below reflect the current build of selenalondon.com and the third-party tools we rely on for payments and delivery tracking.
Third-party checkout & payment widgets
Payment options such as card processing and Klarna are rendered by our payment providers' own secure, PCI-compliant interfaces. We choose providers that publish their own accessibility commitments, but we don't control the code inside those embedded elements directly.
Order tracking app
Our delivery-tracking page runs on a third-party app (ParcelPanel). We review it for basic accessibility but, as with any embedded app, its internal interface is maintained by its provider rather than by us.
Supplier product photography
Some product images are supplied by our manufacturing and fulfilment partners. We write our own alternative text for every listing, but we can't guarantee that every visual detail captured in a photograph is separately described in text.
Live chat widget
Our live chat tool is provided by a third-party vendor. We've selected a widget that supports keyboard use and screen-reader labelling, and if you find it difficult to use, our email and phone contact options below work as a full alternative.
Built with standard code, checked with real tools.
We build selenalondon.com on Shopify's standard theme architecture and semantic HTML, which is designed to be compatible with mainstream assistive technologies rather than requiring a separate accessible version of the site.
We periodically check key journeys — browsing a category, opening a product, reaching checkout and submitting the contact form on this page — using keyboard-only navigation, browser zoom, and screen-reader software, and we log and prioritise any issues found for our next update cycle.

Scope, escalation and how this statement is maintained
This statement covers selenalondon.com in full: the homepage, our sandals, dresses, footwear and three-piece linen set category pages, individual product pages, cart, checkout, and our informational pages including the About Us, FAQ, Contact, Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Shipping Policy and Refund & Return Policy. It does not cover the internal interfaces of third-party payment providers, the ParcelPanel tracking app, or our live chat widget, each of which is maintained separately by its own provider as noted above.
When an accessibility issue is identified — whether through our own review or a customer report — we assess whether it blocks a core action (such as browsing a category, reading a product description, or completing checkout) and prioritise those issues first. Cosmetic or minor issues that don't prevent use of the site are scheduled into our regular theme maintenance.
If any part of selenalondon.com is difficult for you to use with your particular setup, our customer service team can help you find a product, check sizing or fabric details, or place an order on your behalf over email or phone, using the contact details below.
We aim to resolve every accessibility report ourselves within 24 hours on business days. If you're a UK-based customer and remain unsatisfied after contacting us, the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) can offer independent guidance on your rights under the Equality Act 2010. If you believe our handling of an accessibility complaint has not been fair, France's Défenseur des droits (Rights Defender) accepts complaints relating to discrimination, including disability-related matters, from consumers of French-registered businesses.

This statement is prepared by JLA Marketing based on a self-assessment of selenalondon.com against WCAG 2.1 Level AA success criteria, combined with manual keyboard and screen-reader checks of key customer journeys. We review and, where necessary, update this statement whenever we make a significant change to our theme, add a new product category, or introduce a new third-party app that customers interact with directly.
This statement should be read alongside our other published policies, which explain related aspects of how we operate: our About Us page for who we are and how we source and ship products, our Privacy Policy for how we handle personal data (including any accessibility-related information you choose to share with us), and our Terms of Service for the terms of using this website.
