This page explains exactly how we size, describe, photograph and quality-check every sandal, dress, footwear style and three-piece linen set we sell — how to measure yourself at home, how our size charts are built, what "orthopedic-style" actually means on our footwear, and how to report anything that doesn't match what arrives.
Two sources, cross-checked before anything is published.
Every size chart on Selenalondon starts with the manufacturer's own specification sheet for that style — the block measurements, tolerances and grading rules our production partners use to cut each size. We do not simply relabel a partner's chart and publish it as-is.
Before a chart goes live, our product team lays a sample garment or pair of shoes flat and re-measures it by hand against the manufacturer's figures. Where our own measurement and the manufacturer's specification agree within normal tailoring tolerance, we publish the manufacturer figure. Where they diverge by more than that tolerance, we publish our own measured figure instead and flag the style for a follow-up check with the supplier, because our in-house measurement always takes precedence over a specification sheet once a physical sample has been checked.
This means the size chart you see on a product page is never a blind copy of supplier paperwork — it is a manufacturer specification that has been independently verified, and corrected where necessary, against a real, physical item.

How to measure yourself at home, the same way we measure our samples.
Bust, waist and hip
Measure in your underwear, tape held snug but not tight, parallel to the floor. Bust: around the fullest part of the chest. Waist: around the natural waistline, roughly level with your navel, without pulling the tape in. Hip: around the fullest part of the hips and seat, feet together.
Foot length
Stand on a sheet of paper against a wall, weight evenly distributed, and mark the wall behind your heel and the tip of your longest toe. Measure the distance between the two marks in centimetres. Measure both feet in the evening, when feet are at their largest, and size to the longer measurement.
Garments laid flat
Our internal measurements for tops, dresses and linen-set pieces are taken with the item buttoned or zipped, laid flat on a table with no stretching, then measured point-to-point and doubled where relevant (for example, chest width measured flat and multiplied by two for a full-circumference figure).

Fibre content, sole material and hardware, stated to the standard fashion buyers expect.
Every product page states its fibre composition (for example "55% linen, 45% viscose") and, for footwear, its upper, lining and sole materials, sourced directly from the manufacturer's technical specification for that exact style and batch. We publish composition as a percentage breakdown wherever the supplier provides one, and as a clear material description (for example "faux-leather upper, rubber outsole") where a percentage breakdown does not apply, such as for soles, buckles and other hardware.
Where a style is offered in more than one colourway and the colourways use a different fabric blend or finish, the composition shown is specific to the colour you have selected, not an average across the range. If a supplier updates a fabric blend for a future production run, we update the listing before the new batch goes on sale, rather than leaving outdated composition information live.
What we publish

Where it comes from
The manufacturer's technical specification for the specific style and colourway, checked against the physical sample before publishing.
A four-point check before any listing goes live.
Before a new style is published, our product team compares the supplier's photography, specification sheet and sample against one another, checking that the description, size chart, material composition and colour name all describe the same physical item. Listings are only published once these four elements are consistent.
After launch, we continue to review listings against customer feedback and return reasons; a pattern of reports about a specific style (for example, several customers describing a fit or colour that consistently differs from the listing) triggers a re-check of that listing against a fresh sample, and a correction if one is needed.

Why a colour can look slightly different on your screen than in your hands.
Screen and lighting differences
Product photography is shot under calibrated studio lighting, but screens vary in brightness, colour profile and calibration between devices, and ambient light in the room you're browsing from also affects perceived colour. A shade of blush pink or navy can appear a little warmer or cooler depending on whether you're viewing on a phone, laptop or tablet.
France-to-UK cross-border viewing
Because we photograph and describe products in France for a UK audience, we also account for the fact that regional browser settings, screen colour profiles common in different markets, and even translated colour naming conventions can shift how a listed colour reads. Where a colour name could be read differently in the UK than in France (for example "ecru" versus "off-white"), we use the description a UK shopper would expect, and pair it with a clear photograph as the primary reference.
Care symbols are a manufacturer's guidance, not a guarantee.
Every garment ships with a manufacturer's care label, and where relevant we repeat that guidance on the product page. These instructions reflect how the fabric has been tested to perform under normal, correctly-followed care conditions — they are the manufacturer's best guidance for that fabric and construction, not a promise that a specific result (such as zero shrinkage or zero colour fade) is guaranteed under all washing conditions, water hardness, detergents or drying methods.
Linen and linen-blend pieces in particular can soften and relax slightly after washing, which is a normal characteristic of the fibre rather than a fault. We recommend following the garment's care label exactly, washing similar colours together, and air-drying linen pieces where possible to preserve their finish for longer.
What "orthopedic-style" means on our footwear, and what it does not mean.
Some of our sandals and footwear are described as having an "orthopedic-style" build. This phrase describes specific, physical design features present in the shoe — for example a contoured or shaped footbed, additional cushioning under the heel and forefoot, a wider toe box, or an adjustable strap that reduces pressure points during everyday wear. Where we use this term, the product page lists the actual feature responsible for the claim, rather than the word standing in on its own.
"Orthopedic-style" is a design descriptor, not a medical or clinical claim. Our footwear is not a registered medical device, is not custom-fitted to an individual's foot by a healthcare professional, and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any medical condition, injury or foot health issue. If you have a diagnosed foot condition, ongoing pain, diabetes-related foot care needs, or any concern that requires medical footwear, please consult a podiatrist, orthotist or other qualified healthcare professional before relying on any product from our store to manage that condition.
What the term refers to
Named, physical comfort features: contoured footbeds, extra cushioning, wider fit or adjustable straps — always specified on the listing itself.
What the term does not mean
Not a medical device, not clinically tested, not a substitute for professional advice on a diagnosed foot condition.

What we do with your report
- We acknowledge your report within 24 hours on business days.
- We re-check the listing against the physical sample and, if needed, contact the supplier.
- We correct the listing if a genuine inaccuracy is confirmed, and let you know once it's updated.
- If your own order was affected, we resolve it under our Refund & Return Policy.

Rules that apply to us as a French seller

- Code de la consommation (French Consumer Code), which requires clear, accurate pre-contractual information on price, characteristics and availability before a customer orders.
- EU Textile Labelling Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011, which sets the fibre-naming and composition-percentage rules our textile listings follow.
- Footwear Labelling Directive 94/11/EC, covering how upper, lining and sole materials are identified on footwear.

Rules that protect you as our customer
Because we sell only to the United Kingdom, UK consumer law governs your purchase, including:
- Consumer Rights Act 2015, requiring goods to be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose.
- Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, requiring accurate product information before you order and a statutory cancellation right.
- Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 and the wider fair-trading framework, which prohibit misleading claims about a product's characteristics, including comfort or "orthopedic-style" features.

Size charts published on this page reflect our standard sizing across each collection. Where an individual style is cut differently — for example a corseted dress with less stretch, or a wide-fit sandal — the product page itself will state this, and that style-specific information always takes priority over the general chart shown here.
- Charts are reviewed whenever a supplier updates a pattern or grading rule.
- A visible "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the current version.

Photography is taken from the physical sample of each style and is not digitally altered to change colour, proportion or fabric texture. Model photography shows garments on a person of stated height and usual size, for scale reference only; garment measurements on the size chart remain the definitive reference for fit, not the model's appearance.
Natural fibres such as linen, and hand-finished details such as ruching or dye work, can vary slightly between production batches even within the same style and colourway. Where this variation is a normal characteristic of the material or technique rather than a fault, it is disclosed on the relevant product page.
Any comfort, support or "orthopedic-style" claim on our footwear listings refers to a specific, named design feature and is never presented as medical advice or a guaranteed health outcome. We do not make claims that a product can treat, cure or prevent any medical condition, and we do not use health-related claims to justify a higher price without a corresponding, genuine design feature behind that claim.
If an item doesn't match its published size chart, material composition or colour description, this is treated as a listing or product issue rather than a simple change-of-mind return, and is resolved under the relevant terms of our Refund & Return Policy, including cases falling outside the standard return window where the mismatch is confirmed on our side.
We may update this page as our catalogue, sourcing partners or applicable consumer protection rules evolve. The "Effective & last updated" date shown in the hero above always reflects the current version, and material changes will be reflected here.
